PURPOSE OF UT READINGS
Wall thickness monitoring is meant to provide a measure of our success in our fight against corrosion. It must reveal problems that may jeopardize our ultimate goal that is prevention of panel replacement.
With this goal in mind Sage has introduced several significant improvements in the inspection field. Our method differs dramatically from the competition in two fundamental ways. Its name derives from Ultrasonic System Electronically Engineered for Instant Trending.
Collecting Data
our inspectors have been exposed to other boilers services for several years and are quite familiar with potential problems deriving from abnormal conditions such as surface modification and studs abnormal profiles.
Data is collected after a thorough visual inspection. Areas with signs of exposition to abnormal conditions are inspected with higher resolution. Most inspectors ignore abnormal areas if their are not in the reference grid.
Our custom made instruments refuse the input of values above those collected in previous years.
We positively identify each point inspected and refer to the same points every year. The elevations are identified physically with a twine instead of a fuzzy and wide band of gel.

This positive identification has serious implications because significant thickness variation can occur between points separated by a small distance, as show below. Variations in the range of .020" can occur along the length of a credit card.

Interpreting and Managing Data
We manage and organize the information in a convenient and safe format. As we leave the job site the data is posted on the internet in a protected "customer file" accessible only to authorized users, in Excel format. We maintain the information covering the last 5 years so that accessing previous readings and comparing them takes less than a minute.
Try to dig any information from one single report as shown below...

We determine the POint WEar Rate - POWER - that shows what is happening to the boiler after each campaign. This feature instantly spots the consequences of any operating change introduced in the boiler. With a wear rate defined for each individual point we project the boiler conditions for the next 1, 2 and three years in seconds.

If and when access to the original data is required a couple of mouse clicks brings up all the data in an easy to navigate manner as shown below
WELCOME TO USER'S MILL
RB # DATA
Fast computerized tools may generate massive data but may not clearly provide the user the needed guidelines. We don't generate UT readings as commodities. Our data delivers the information the user needs.
